Understanding Smart City Policy: Insights from the Strategy Documents of 52 Local Governments

Today, many cities around the globe are interested in developing or adopting smart city policy frameworks; however, complexity of concept combined with complicated urban issues makes it a highly challenging task. Moreover, there limited studies to consolidate our understanding policymaking. The aim this study was bridge knowledge gap by placing set official frameworks under analysis microscope. approached by, firstly, internationally collating 52 local governments from 17 countries. methodology then progressed deductive content identified policies thematic data software. investigation employed main themes identify common policies—i.e., economy, environment, governance, living, mobility, and people. results revealed targeted key planning issues, goals, priorities, ways that address these priorities. findings inform policymakers, planners practitioners on priorities provide insights for
